Smooth sim weather and some close racing featured in this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. The regions held up well as the DNFs (Did Not Finish) recorded on the day were not due to crashes, but to both racers pulling their boats midway through each race. Ultra and Jackson highlighted some close racing, as both fought neck and neck in each race, changing positions with some clever passing at marks and using wind shadowing. This weeks fleet, racing on North Sea Copacabana and NS-SOL-13B courses, was comprised of a majority of five Bandit IFs with two Bandit 25s making up the remainder.

Today’s winner was Blair (Blair Karas), with Moon (moonglownight Resident) second, and Astrid (AstridNewBonham Resident) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate.

Race Notes:
Astrid (AstridNewBonham Resident), Jackson (Jacquimo Resident), and Ultra (ultramantra Resident) both finished tied with 8 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
AstridNewBonham Resident 2 6
Jacquimo Resident 3 5
ultramantra Resident 4 4

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Astrid’s favor with having a second place finish over Jackson’s third place finish and Ultra’s fourth place finish as their best. Additionally, the remaining tie between Jackson and Ultra breaks in Jackson’s favor with his third place best finish besting Ultra’s fourth place best finish.

This weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta saw some rough weather as the internet and SL conspired against racers. The sims themselves seemed to hold up but an ongoing DDoS attack on services across the internet made region crossings rough. Several racers recorded DNFs (Did Not Finish) as they lost connection across multiple crossings on top of severe local chat and inventory lag. The fleet held on though, and still wound up with more than half finishing their races on the day. We had a great turnout of spectators even with the on going maintenance by LL to prop up the servers, as crowds gathered on Lighthouse Isle, in the Ziziphus region, and at Turtle Break Surf, in the Eden Godwit region, to watch the fleet. This weeks fleet, racing on the North Sea Manta and North Sea Inner Outer Loop (NS-OIL Rev1) courses, was made up of a majority of five Bandit IFs with three Bandit 25s making up the remainder.

Race Notes:
Cat (Cat Azemus) and Riz (Rizler Rodex) were both disqualified (DSQ) during the second race for sailing the incorrect course.

Red (RedHeadJO Resident) and Jackson (Jacquimo Resident) both finished tied with 8 points. As they both finished with exact same finishes in each race, a DNF in both races respectively, neither rule A8.1 or A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing can break this tie. As a result, they remain tied in fifth place over all.

Riz (RIZLER Rodex) and Astrid (AstridNewBonham Resident) finished tied with 12 points. As they both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.

Our monthly There and Back Again was on the plate for this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. The regions behaved well for both courses, North Sea Breadnut to Eden Auk and North Sea Eden Auk to Breadnut, as not a single DNF was recorded. Spectators came out to watch our monthly cross estate romp as both docks in the Genip and Eden Puffin regions were packed as well as Lighthouse Isle in the Ziziphus Region and the lighthouse in the corner of the Eden Godwit region. This weeks fleet featured an even mix of four Bandit IFs and four Bandit 25s. Our newest race director, Daenerys, was also lead race director of the Bandit Regatta for the first of many times to come.

Subsequently, the tie further breaks in Jackson’s favor as his fourth place best finish is better than Astrid’s fifth place best finish.

A smaller fleet with some close racing featured in this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. We had a fleet of seven boats in both races, made up of six Bandit IFs and one Bandit 25. Spectators still packed along the beaches in the Eden Albatros region, Lighthouse Isle in the Ziziphus region, and on the race dock in the Eden Puffin region. Jackson, Moon, and Daenerys made things exciting among the Bandit IF pack as they changed positions among each other numerous times in both races. The sims behaved well as there was only DNF (Did Not Finish) in each race due to crashing. Danie wound up getting grabbed by RL during the first race and recording the other DNF.
