On the dock: Daenerys, Sasha, Nenrio, and Cryptic.

Wonderful sailing weather and a great turnout featured in this weeks North Sea Open Regatta. The North Sea sims behaved exceptionally well as not a single DNF (Did Not Finish), of which there were two on the day, was recorded due to crashes. The two DNFs on the day came during the big boat portion of the regatta, as Safy, with Julia as crew in her The Mesh Shop (TMS) Ushuaia, pulled her boat late in the race after several penalty turns, and Palani, in his Wildwind Open 60, crossed the raceline from the incorrect side at the finish then lowered his sails failing to sail around, cross again properly and record a finish. Crowds again showed up in numbers at the lighthouse and beaches on Lighthouse Isle, in the Ziziphus region, the beaches in the Eden Albatros region, and both the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and the small racing dock in the Eden Puffin region. There were 13 boats in the small boats portion, all of which finished the race, highlighting a great turnout in fleet size. There were an additional 8 boats in the big boat portion of the regatta.

This weeks small boat fleet, racing on North Sea Olympic Course (Long), was comprised of a majority five Bandit IFs. Three Bandit 25s, three TMS Flying Shadows, one TMS Nacra 17, and one Trudeau Patchogue II rounded out the remainder of the small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, racing on the North Sea Butterfly course, was comprised of a majority of three Wildwind Open 60s. Two TMS One Design 65s, one TMS Pacha 110, one TMS Ushuaia, and one Wildwind AC-45 rounded out the remainder of the big boat fleet.

Race Notes:
ViV (vivipezz Resident) and Blair (Blair Karas) finished tied with 6 points. As they both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.

Skipper Race 1 Race 2
vivipezz Resident 5 1
Blair Karas 1 5

In the last race, ViV breaks the tie with Blair with her first place finish over Blair’s fifth place finish.

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
Palani Allen 7 14
Arwyn Silverweb 9 12

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Palani’s favor with having a seventh place finish over Rosie’s ninth place finish as her best.

Smooth sim weather and some close racing featured in this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. The regions held up well as the DNFs (Did Not Finish) recorded on the day were not due to crashes, but to both racers pulling their boats midway through each race. Ultra and Jackson highlighted some close racing, as both fought neck and neck in each race, changing positions with some clever passing at marks and using wind shadowing. This weeks fleet, racing on North Sea Copacabana and NS-SOL-13B courses, was comprised of a majority of five Bandit IFs with two Bandit 25s making up the remainder.

Decent sim weather and another great spectator turnout featured in this weeks North Sea Open Regatta. The sims behaved well although SL was still experiencing some lag from an ongoing DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service attack) to services abroad on the Internet. Only two DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day due to crashes. Spectators once again filled the beaches of Lighthouse Isle, in the Ziziphus region, as well as the small dock on the northern tip which features great views of all the courses raced in The North Sea.

This weeks small boat fleet, racing on the North Sea Triple Pink course, was made up of a majority of five Bandit IFs. Three The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows, two Bandit 25s, one Quest 2M, and one TMS Nacra 17 made up the remainder of the small boat fleet. This weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta saw some rough weather as the internet and SL conspired against racers. The sims themselves seemed to hold up but an ongoing DDoS attack on services across the internet made region crossings rough. Several racers recorded DNFs (Did Not Finish) as they lost connection across multiple crossings on top of severe local chat and inventory lag. The fleet held on though, and still wound up with more than half finishing their races on the day. We had a great turnout of spectators even with the on going maintenance by LL to prop up the servers, as crowds gathered on Lighthouse Isle, in the Ziziphus region, and at Turtle Break Surf, in the Eden Godwit region, to watch the fleet. This weeks fleet, racing on the North Sea Manta and North Sea Inner Outer Loop (NS-OIL Rev1) courses, was made up of a majority of five Bandit IFs with three Bandit 25s making up the remainder.

Race Notes:
Cat (Cat Azemus) and Riz (Rizler Rodex) were both disqualified (DSQ) during the second race for sailing the incorrect course.

Red (RedHeadJO Resident) and Jackson (Jacquimo Resident) both finished tied with 8 points. As they both finished with exact same finishes in each race, a DNF in both races respectively, neither rule A8.1 or A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing can break this tie. As a result, they remain tied in fifth place over all.

Riz (RIZLER Rodex) and Astrid (AstridNewBonham Resident) finished tied with 12 points. As they both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

The regions behaved well for both courses, North Sea Breadnut to Eden Auk and North Sea Eden Auk to Breadnut, as not a single DNF was recorded. Spectators came out to watch our monthly cross estate romp as both docks in the Genip and Eden Puffin regions were packed as well as Lighthouse Isle in the Ziziphus Region and the lighthouse in the corner of the Eden Godwit region. This weeks fleet featured an even mix of four Bandit IFs and four Bandit 25s. Our newest race director, Daenerys, was also lead race director of the Bandit Regatta for the first of many times to come.

Great sailing weather and another large spectator turn out featured in this weeks North Sea Open Regatta. The regions behaved wonderfully as only two DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day, none to crashes. Both DNFs took place during the big boat portion, as Astrid left the race early and Howard’s Wifi connection dropped entirely, leaving him with no connection to the Internet. Spectators once again crowded the beaches along the shores of Eden, gathering in the Eden Albatros, Eden Puffin, and Ziziphus regions.
