This weeks North Sea Open Regatta saw turbulent seas in the beginning turn smooth towards the end. The sim weather was choppy for the small boats portion of the Open Regatta, as five boats were lost to DNFs (Did Not Finish). The seas turned pristine for the big boats portion of the Open Regatta, as every boat in the fleet finished. Crowds once again turned up along the usual spots in the North Sea, in the Eden Albatros, Eden Puffin, and Ziziphus regions.

This weeks small boat fleet, racing a 3 lap affair on the North Sea Short Loop course, was made up of a split majority of four Bandit 25s and four Bandit IFs. Two TMS (The Mesh Shop) Flying Shadows, one TMS Nacra 17, one Quest 2m, and one Quest Melges-24 made up the remainder of the small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, racing 2 lap affair on the North Sea Long Loop course, was made up of majority of four TMS One Design 65s. Two TMS Ushuaias, two Wildwind Open 60s, and one Bandit 60 made up the remainder of the big boat fleet.

Today’s winner was Beane (beane Bade), with Moon (moonglownight Resident) second, and Helena (Helena Carstensz) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate.

Race Notes:
Helena (Helena Carstensz) and Rosie (Arwyn Silverweb) both finished tied with 9 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
Helena Carstensz 1 8
Arwyn Silverweb 2 7

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Helena’s favor with having a first place finish over Rosie’s second place finish as her best.

Rossa (rossamare Resident) and Rosie (Rayzza Rubbleb) both finished tied with 16 points.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
rossamare Resident 6 10
Rayzza Rubble 7 9

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Rossa’s favor with having a sixth place finish over Rayz’s seventh place finish as his best.

Esther (EstherGM Resident) and Blair (Blair Karas) both finished tied with 18 points.

EstherGM Resident 4 14
Blair Karas 9 9

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Esther’s favor with having a fourth place finish over Blair’s ninth place finish as his best.

Astrid (AstridNewBonham Resident), Howard (hallveis Resident), and Emily (EmilyWaugh Resident) all finished tied with 19 points. As they all have the exact same finishes in both small and big boat races, a DNF and DNS respectively, neither rule A8.1 or A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing will satisfy breaking their tie. Therefore, they remain tied in twelfth place overall.
